I completed my dual residency in psychiatry and internal medicine at the University of Kansas Hospital, one of only ten programs in the country offering such specialized training. This unique opportunity allowed me to earn a spot in a prestigious program where I obtained board certification in both psychiatry and internal medicine, as well as licensure in Kansas and Missouri. Furthermore, I pursued and achieved a third board certification in obesity medicine.

My passion for psychiatry and internal medicine stems from a desire to bridge the gap between the two disciplines and reduce the stigma associated with psychiatric care. Despite the prevalence of psychiatric disorders, they are often undervalued compared to medical diagnoses. From my professional experience and personal battle with bipolar disorder, I understand the profound impact psychiatric conditions can have. When left unmanaged, they can be just as debilitating as any medical condition. My journey with mental health uniquely equips me to empathize with and relate to my patients.

I prioritize holistic patient care, encouraging patients to be active participants in their treatment plans. Given the significant overlap between medical and psychiatric disorders, I believe they should never be considered in isolation. My comprehensive background allows me to rule out organic medical conditions that might present with psychiatric symptoms, ensuring accurate diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders. This approach inspired my additional training in obesity medicine, addressing one of the most critical health challenges.
